A revision of the description and classification of weathered granite and its application to granites in Korea

Abstract This paper reviews commonly occurring difficulties associated with the description and classification of granite and proposes revised schemes for this purpose. The schemes can be applied to granitic material and granitic masses, the revised scheme for describing the latter incorporating the new criteria of volumetric percentage of weathering grades to define weathering zones. Examples are provided of the application of these revised schemes to granites in Korea.
