A cellular automata model of electrical propagation in cardiac tissue

A cellular automata model of cardiac tissue is created which overcomes many of the limits of previous models. Rather than simply simulating one or a few aspects of tissue behavior, this model is generalized to include the possibility of a vast array of different tissue characteristics. In addition, the computer program used to implement this model has been written to allow easy addition or alteration to the model, with minimal or no source code rewriting. The major strength of this model comes from the basis of its description of tissue behavior. It does not try to represent each element in the model as an amount of tissue, instead it considers each element to be a sampled point in the tissue. The creation of this model 'engine' permits a specific anatomical implementation to be created quickly, without sacrificing desired accuracy.<<ETX>>
