Use of a central treating location, or pad, has provided a method for economic development of leases in a densely wooded, hilly area near Titusville and Oil City in W. Pennsylvania. The pad concept makes it possible to stimulate more than 100 shallow wells in the area from a single location at a savings of nearly $3000 and 2 to 3 days of time per well. The pad eliminates the time required for hooking up, tearing down, and transporting stimulation equipment to each individual well site. It eliminates the added cost of clearing a suitable work area at each well site, as well as the use of a bulldozer to pull in all the various pieces of equipment during harsh weather. The concept also is endorsed by the Pennsylvania State Game Commission, since it conserves valuable forest area. There are 2 pads in the area, one on the Jeanerett lease and one on the Masters lease. Both leases are new production and each will contain more than 100 wells when development is complete.
