PRELIMINARY NUMERICAL STUDY OF A NEW SLENDER-SHIP THEORY OF WAVE RESISTANCE

The object of this study is to present results of wave-resistance calculations based on the slender-ship theory developed by Noblesse, one of the present Authors . In these calculations, which were carried out at the M.I.T., three main wave- resistance approximations are numerically evaluated for various simple mathematical hull forms. After defining these three approxim- ations, the Authors discuss them, together with the results obtained with them, under the headings: The Zeroth-Order Slender-Ship Approximation; Low-Froude-Number Approximations; The First-Order Slender-Ship Approximation; Conclusions.
