Factors that Influence the Fluidized-Bed Tribo-Electrostatic Separation of Plastic Granular Mixtures

The output of the electrostatic separation process is strongly dependent on the effectiveness of particle charging. Tribo-electrostatic separation is a solution allowing to sort out a mixture of two plastic granular mixture, using a tribo-charging device ad a free-fall separator. The aim of the present work is to evaluate the influence of air jet temperature and humidity of the fluidized bed device on the charging process, by analyzing the results of the tribo-electrostatic separation of a granular mixture containing 25 g ABS and 25 HIPS resulted from electronic wastes. Better results were obtained at 30% relative humidity and 35degC temperature of the fluidization air jet.
