Performance Evaluation of InP-Based DP-IQ Modulators for Multiband Transmission Systems

In this paper we study the wavelength-dependence of power imbalance and insertion loss in InP-based 2×2 Multi-Mode Interference (MMI) couplers as means to evaluate the design of multiband DP-IQ modulators. A system level investigation is performed on a simulated coherent transmission setup and the impact of different MMI design strategies for 4- and 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals is studied.
