SIMULATION-BASED EVALUATION OF ADVANCED PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS

Advanced Public Transportation Systems (APTS) have the potential to lead to improved transit operations planning and real time control of operations (service management). Simulation approaches can provide the necessary tools to evaluate various strategies and approaches at the operational level. Important requirements that a simulator must meet in order to realistically represent bus operations is proposed, along with a framework for implementation. A case study of an urban arterial network in Stockholm, Sweden, demonstrates the capabilities of the simulation model.
