A semantic argumentation approach to collaborative ontology engineering

This paper presents a semantic argumentation approach to collaborative ontology engineering which enables systematic and dynamic ontology deliberation to a community. It encourages members to collaboratively express ideas or solutions regarding an ontology development issue, and to submit arguments which support or oppose other members' ideas. To allow sophisticated deliberation analysis, the ontology deliberation is formally and semantically captured and described into SAM Schema and maintained it as a community knowledge-based. Moreover, a number of useful measures are proposed in order to evaluate the deliberation by considering both ontology quality and group preference which can be used to calculate the acceptance level of each position. A position accepted by most members will be selectively integrated as collective ontology, which is collaboratively developed until achieving the final ontology. Furthermore, an online collective intelligence explorer, namely SAMOnto, is developed based on Semantic Argumentation Model (SAM) for harnessing collective intelligence and automatically driving the community towards a consensus.
