Amodal Information and Transmodal Perception

In common with other forms of knowing, the act of perceiving involves processing of information. In this paper I have two objectives: First, I will offer a number of observations concerning the nature of information for perception with the emphasis on amodal information. In this portion of my presentation the influence of J. J. Gibson’s (7,8,9) ideas will be obvious. Second, I will raise a number of questions suggested by these observations concerning the potential of vibrotactile stimulation to substitute for visual stimulation.
