An overview of the Georgia Tech Broadband Institute at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA

The Georgia Tech Broadband Institute was created in 1999, as a combination of two evolving organizations --- the Broadband Telecommunications Center (created in 1995) and the Georgia Tech Wireless Institute (created in 1998). The consolidation of the centers was in reflection of the synergy that existed between the centers, and the overlap in terms of existing and potential Industry sponsorship. The 1999 merger recognized that the future of wireless included an overarching trend towards broadband capability, and that from the user or application viewpoint, seamless and broadband connectivity were more significant than the medium used for the connection.
