From RADs to DESs : a mapping from Process Models toDiscrete Event

This paper presents some results arising from the development of a prototype tool concerned with the automatic mapping of process models captured using Role Activity Diagrams (RADs), to the input to a Discrete Event simulator. The key element in our work is to establish, as a rst step, the diierences and common features between the concept domain in RADs and Discrete Event Simulation (DES) Modelling. Hence identifying the issues concerning the mapping from one to the other with the objective of facilitating the use of these kinds of linked tools. Thus, it is hoped avoiding extra eeort in building the simulation models from scratch, and allowing the evaluation of proposed process model changes to be innuenced by the results of a simulation study.
