Visibility as an essential element of meteorological observations, is an important evaluation fog image processing. Visibility testing methods rely on the traditional instrument, such as atmospheric transmission hardware, artificial limitations require multi-point observation, etc., the present invention presents a method for estimating the visibility single foggy image based on scene depth. The method is based on a physical model to estimate the atmospheric transmittance degradation, the depth estimation method uses a landscape scene depth estimation, and based on the principle of measuring visibility meter obtaining atmospheric extinction coefficient. Finally, the introduction of the idea of probability and statistics, by calculating the visibility of a single pixel level of visibility and fog, according to statistics for each pixel level visibility percentage probability to estimate a single visibility fog image. The present invention estimates only single foggy images, simple calculation, estimation accuracy, not dependent on any hardware, reducing operator human intervention, may be applied to image sharpening fog effective evaluation system defogging effect.
