Abstract: This paper reports the results of a simulation study on the performance of a clustered multiple-hop wireless network subject to both node failures and random channel fading. The objective of the study is to quantify the effect of loop closure frequency and the nodes’ storage capacity on the performance of the network in terms of network lifetime, and packet loss rate. The paper presents our modeling effort, simulation results, and their analyses. The study concludes that in a network where energy is severely constrained, feedback must be applied judiciously. Both the network lifetime and the throughput can be greatly enhanced by additional storage capacity.
