An effective enhancement method for image clearness in fogs

The single color image restored based on physical model has the disadvantages that the exact scene depth parameter can not be gotten, and the far scene is not restored ideally.Besides, when the color image is processed based on physical model, the contrast and luminance of the image decrease and the color is anamorphic. To solve the above problems,a new method is proposed in this paper,by which the restored image is enhanced through the modified Retinex algorithm. The scene depth graph is obtained by using the rule of dark channel prior. The area with larger depth parameters is gotten and enhanced by reflection component value to improve the local visual appearance of the far scene and the details. Moreover, the global contrast is stretched in virtue of illumination component value to prevent from the color distortion when the color is amended. The image in fogs is enhanced directly through the modified Retinex algorithm and the result is compared with those of previous methods. The experimental results also show that the new method can improve the image restoration based on physical model and enhance the clearness of the degraded color image in fogs.
