SURVEY AND ANALYSIS OF EMPLOYEE RESPONSES TO EMPLOYER-SPONSORED TRIP REDUCTION INCENTIVE PROGRAMS

This report examines the effectiveness of incentives and promotional activities offered by employers as part of their trip reduction program. Based on surveys of 45 employers and some 2,400 employees in the Los Angeles and Sacramento areas, the report reveals the following incentives as most effective: carpool subsidies, reduced parking fees, transportation allowances, guaranteed ride home, company vanpools, and preferential parking. A predictive software, based on a disaggregate logit mode choice model calibrated from the employer/emoloyee data, and developed to allow evaluation of likely effectiveness of proposed incentive programs, was used.
