Combination of Data

A general discussion is given of the statistical issues involved in merging information from different sets of data, a common parameter of interest being involved. In the simplest situation, a weighted mean of separate estimates is used, care being needed particularly when the weights themselves are subject to appreciable errors of estimation. The possible impact of systematic errors is discussed. The latter parts of the section concern more complicated situations.
