Transform-Domain Signal Processing in Digital Communications

The Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) is undoubtedly the most popular tool in digital signal processing, and its popularity can be attributed to the strong intuition engineers and scientists have developed about the frequency-domain representation of signals. In digital communications, the DFT forms the basis of multicarrier transmission commonly known under the names of Discrete MultiTone (DMT) and Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM). It is also the basic tool for frequency-domain channel equalization in single-carrier systems.
