The design of SISYPHE: a system for doing symbolic and algebraic computations

SISYPHE is a new general purpose Computer Algebra System under development at INRIA and University of Nice since 1988. The system can be used interactively as a mathematical calculator and new procedures and packages can be added using a programming language, SISYPHE is written in Le-Lisp [J.Chailloux and al.], the syntax of the command language and the names of the user functions are Macsyma like. The system is made from a set of compiled modules and contains a pre-compiler and a compiler. Mathematical objects admit various typed internal representations with associated conversion functions. SISYPHE is designed to be used by engineers as well as researchers.
