TO THE EDITOR: Aluminum (AI) tissue deposit production in fulland. pretenn newborns receiving intravenous (iv) solutions has been described.P It has been suggested that AI could be one of the causal factors of premature osteopenia' and some cases of unexplained encephalopathy.' Parenteral nutrition (PN) solutions, mainly by calcium salts contamination and, to a lesser degree, albumin, appear to be the most widely described sources.P For large-volume and repeated parenteral solutions, the Food and Drug Administration has considered setting an upper limit ofO.93IlmoVAI/L.4
