A new concise review journal: Participation of chemical research scientists will be the key to effectiveness

Probably no scientist is able to know all he would like to know about what is going on in scientific research. Because of this, scientific societies and other publishers are wrestling with a problem they find resistant to attack. But the attack continues in the hope that as pieces of the problem are solved the progress may add up to a net gain in balance against the problem's growth. The American Chemical Society now is preparing to build a review journal designed with the objective of giving chemical scientists a broader grasp of current research developments and their significance (see page 36). The good review journal must be designed with the idea that for power of evaluation there is no substitute for the mind of the scientist of proved competence in the field concerned. If a group of such minds can be called upon to focus the most significant knowledge of their own specific research ...
