Summary This article summarises a series of staff development sessions held jointly by two combined schools and their educational psychologist, trying to identify and to meet the needs of the schools’ able children. It was an attempt to function as a self help group and to harness the schools’ expertise and enthusiasm, helped by the EP as a facilitator. The article highlights the processes involved and the EP's skills which were found to be useful in such an initiative.
