Control of Right-turn Vehicles at Signalized Intersections Based on Comfort and Safety of Pedestrian

Considering the urgent demand to increase pedestriansi¯feelings of comfort and safety while crossing the street, right turn control measures were divided into two types, namely, complete separation of right automobile from pedestrian and signaled control at certain period, then calculation model was constructed to analyze the delays induced by signal and interference of pedestrian, and the signalized right turn control method was put forward.Taking a signalized intersection with four phases as research object, two control types including signalized control as left-turn phase and entrance forbidden under green phase were used for simulationi¤The simulation result indicatesstrian flow if there is no right-turn control; (2) when theow and right-turn vehicle flow reach 1 000 p/h and 400 veh/h, respectively, delay of right-turn vehi-cle increases beyond the C level of service; (3) if control strategy is utilized, delay of right-turn vehicle increases with the increasing of vehicle flow but has nothing to do with pedestrian flow, which leads to a smaller delay con-trolled by the second methodi¤It provides a reference for operation administration of urban traffici¤
