A Demonstration of the Impact of Stress Abatement Programs on Reducing Employees' Accidents and Their Costs

The deleterious effects of workrelated stress on workers health and well-being have been described in numerous studies across a wide range of occupations, jobs and organizations. 1.2.3.4 By definition, stress manifests in the individual in the form of physiological (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol level), physiological (e. g., headaches, lower back pain, skin ailments), psychological (e. g., mental fatigue, chronic anxiety, depression), and behavioral (e. g., accident proneness, withdrawal, hostility) responses. But while stress is at its most fundamental level an individual experience, the strains associated with stress may emerge in collective form, whether it be in the marriage, family, work unit, or organizational "culture" or " climate."
