A Study on the Structural Integrity of the Anchor Auto Drop System for ship windlass

From previous studies, we know the control characteristics of the Anchor Auto Drop System (AADS). Based on this, we now study the structural integrity of an AADS windlass frame and bolted foundation for a ship windlass, capable of enduring the anchor drop braking force. For this, we make a 3D model and finite element model. Then we perform a fatigue analysis on the brake load of the falling anchor. As the result of this analysis, we confirmed the large load acting on bolted and brake contacting parts. Though this analysis we ensure that the limits of applied braking force include a safety factor based on the material property of the windlass and its foundation.
