Toward High-throughput Sorting of Single Spheroids Based on Mechano-index on a Microfluidic Chip

We propose on-chip sorting system for the separation of single spheroids based on the difference of their mechano-indexes. In the measurement area of the microfluidic chip, force sensor probes which are movable components are integrated. A target is compressed by the force sensor probes, and the mechano-index of the target is calculated. We constructed the sorting system consisting of motor pumps for flow control and piezoelectric actuators for measurement. We evaluated the constructed sorting system by using polystyrene beads and confirmed that the throughput was 3.75 beads / min (n=32).
