Inpainting of Medical Images using a Novel Fourthorder PDE-based Interpolation Technique

A novel inpainting approach that can be applied successfully in the medical imaging domain is proposed in this research paper. It is based on a novel nonlinear fourth-order partial differential equation (PDE)-based model that is then discretized by using an iterative finite difference-based numerical approximation algorithm. The proposed numerical scheme is successfully applied to many images affected by missing regions. Some of these regions, representing wounds, scratches or skin wrinkles in medical images, are inpainted properly by this interpolation technique.
