Transceiving antenna for homogeneous heating and radiometric thermometry during hyperthermia

The authors describe a conformal microwave applicator fabricated from thin, flexible, multi-layer printed circuit board material that facilitates the hyperthermic heating of surface areas covering contoured regions of the anatomy. An antenna structure which combines the axial beam characteristics of an Archimedian spiral antenna with the omni-directional radiation pattern of an annular slot dual concentric conductor antenna is studied with the aim of achieving homogeneous heating simultaneously with non-invasive thermometry of tissue under the applicator.
