Hydrocarbon anions with high stability. Part 1. Syntheses and properties of extremely stable cyclopentadienide ions with 7H-dibenzo[c,g]fluorenylidenemethyl substituents

The title carbanions (2a– and 3a–) have been synthesized and found to be extremely stable as shown by Eox–0.20 and –0.33 V and pKa values of 3.3 and 4.7 for their conjugate acid hydrocarbons, respectively, and 2a– is almost identically stable to the most stable all-hydrocarbon anion.
