Speckle Noise Reduction in ESPI Fringes Using Wavelet Shrinkage

This paper presents the application of a method for speckle noise reduction in electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) fringes using Daubechies wavelet transforms. The method is based on the level-dependent removal of the wavelet coefficients of the transformed image. The paper discusses the performance of the method and makes a comparison with other denoising techniques using Daubechies wavelet basis decomposition. It is shown that the proposed method is computationally efficient and maintains sharp image features.
