DIFFERENCES IN SERUM COMPLEMENT ACTIVITY AMONG INBRED STRAINS OF MICE.

Variation in complement activity among inbred strains of mice has been confirmed. In addition, evidence is presented that sera from Balb/cAnN, C57BL/10ScN, B10·D2/Sn “new,” B10·D2/Sn “old,” DBA/2JN and C57BL/6JN have C′1, C′4 and C′2 activities and that differences in C′ titer, in part, may be due to variation in C′3 complex activity. Sera from Balb/cAnN, C57BL/10ScN, and B10·D2/Sn “new” males contain significantly greater C′ and C′3 complex activity than sera from females of the same strain.
