The Leak Detection System of Gas Pipelines Based on Infrasonic Wave

With the wide availability of natural gas, a lot of gas pipelines are laid. But because of the factors of nature and human, the leakage accident of pipe occurs frequently. This paper introduces the principle of pipeline leaking detection which is based on the infrasound wave and expounds the advantage of the infrasound wave which is used in the detection of leaking pipeline. The time lag is determined by using the synchronal method of Global Positioning System (GPS) time and analyzing the factors which can influence the propagation speed of sound waves. The paper also introduces the structure of the experimental platform and explains the hardware design of the leak detection system. The whole experiment uses the sensor of infrasound wave which was invented by the Chinese Academy of Sciences to realize the data acquisition and real-time monitoring of gas transmission pipeline. The paper describes the composition of software systems which need to achieve the main functions of the data import, digital filtering and data storage.
