Stimuli-responsive nanocomposites for drug delivery

Abstract Smart and innovative functional polymers and nanocomposites have gained intense interest in recent times due to their innumerable applications, particularly in biomedical field as drug delivery system. The development of multifunctional and stimuli-sensitive nanocomposites is an active area of current research that has been spurred by recent progress in materials chemistry to deliver a drug in spatial-, temporal- and dosage-controlled fashions. This review article summarizes recent developments in the area of smart functional polymers and nanocomposites with an emphasis on various (physical, chemical, and biological) stimuli-responsive systems and their multifaceted applications. Furthermore, this review also highlights useful insights on multistimuli-responsive polymers for novel applications and new generations of smart materials.
