We have developed the first single-fibre bi-directional XFP transceiver for optical metro/access networks. By using a differential signal line to the transmitter optical subassembly (TOSA), we realize a 10 Gbit/s bi-directional module with low electrical crosstalk. We confirm crosstalk suppression by finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations. The developed XFP module yields signals with good eye opening. We obtain the quite low sensitivity penalty of 0.3 dB with simultaneous operation of the transmitter and receiver. (2 pages)
