Concrete Precooling Method by Means of Dry Ice

The various methods for controling thermal cracking in mass concrete structures is noted, and precooling is considered the most effective countermeasure. A new type of precooling is described, which uses dry ice as cooling medium because it has a high latent heat of 137 kcal/kg. The dry ice production is described, as well as the basic cooling process, the cooling equipment, temperature control, and the application on a demonstration project. The details of the successful demonstration are described.
