Application of fully automatic remeshing to complex metal-forming analyses

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the importance of automatic remeshing in the simulation of complex metal-forming processes. A fully automatic remeshing procedure has been developed to enable modeling of a whole forming process of industrial parts without user intervention. The remeshing scheme was implemented in a finite element code, LAGAMINE. The different features of this technique are presented with two industrial examples: (1) an axisymmetric forging; and (2) an axisymmetric forward extrusion. In both cases, an elasto-viscoplastic material model was used.
