An experimental determination of the roll pressure distributions in cold rolling

Abstract The paper describes the design of transducers and experiments to measure the pressure distribution in the roll gap during cold metal rolling. Results are presented for aluminium, copper and mild steel. The pressure distributions obtained experimentally conform to cold rolling theory in certain circumstances, but there are notable exceptions. The experiments indicate that there is no sticking between the specimen and rolls.
