Fundamentals and trends of digital measurement

Essential properties of digital measurement are discussed from conceptual and information points of view. Basic requirements for gathering digital information from physical objects are also discussed. Sensor fusion and distributed measurement systems are touched by examining a case of mill-wide remote diagnosis. Future trends of development are indicated.
