A case of neonatal intraorbital abscess developing on the background of dacryocystocele.

Orbital infections are seen most commonly in childhood. They require urgent treatment because of worse outcomes such as sepsis, meningitis, loss of vision and death. Although these infections are usually seen as complication of trauma and paranasal sinusitis, nasolacrimal agenesis is the most common etiology in the newborns. Herein a case of intraorbital abscess occuring at the background of dacriocystocele in a 10 day-old-female newborn is reported. The culture of abscess material revealed S. aureus and the patient was succesfully treated with efficient antibiotic treatment and abscess drainage.
