TRUCK DATA FOR BRIDGE LOAD MODELING

The maximum loading of short and medium span bridges is a function of the frequency of multiple and simultaneous truck presence; the gross weights of trucks; and the statistics of truck confugurations including truck type, axle spacings and axle weight distributions. This paper reviews the importance of these factors in the estimation of the maximum bridge load effect based on complete truck weight and traffic data collected at several two lane bridge sites in Ohio. A summary of the data is presented herein and is used as input to a simulation program that estimates the probabilistic distribution of the maximum moment response of bridges. The use of the model to develop a truck weight formula that regulates the weight of trucks on bridges is illustrated.
