Comparative investigation of friction in externally pressurised journal bearings

Abstract The friction characteristics of externally pressurised bearings are investigated in the present paper over a complete range of operating bearing conditions. These results allow, for the first time, a systematic study of the friction performance of the journal bearing with wide and deep pads. The study is part of an extensive research on hydrostatic lubrication carried out at the Institute of Applied Mechanics of the University of Genoa.
