This paper discusses the evaluation of the accident rate of an industrial facility equipped with a single-channel protective system subjected to aging and also considering arbitrary demand and repair times to cope with operational experience. A quite general solution is discussed by using supplementary variables. An analytical approach is discussed and its limitations are addressed. Special features related to the failure times and also failure, repair and demand rates are also discussed.
