Competition in Dutch Public Transport

This chapter describes how, recently, the Dutch government has performed the organization of the Dutch Public Transport (PT) sector. Currently, an evaluation program is being carried out in order to assess the effects of this reform. This paper describes background and policy goals of the reform. Next, the effects of the reform as they emerge from the evaluation program are presented. In the second part, a brief overview of PT in the Netherlands is given, followed by a historic overview of the organization PT in the third part. The current organization of PT and its possibilities for the future is presented in the fourth part and the methodology of the evaluation program is described in part five. In the sixth section, the results of the evaluation are presented and the last section contains the conclusions.
