Digital calciphylaxis progressing to amputation in a child on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis

Abstract Calciphylaxis is a rare, life-threatening condition of progressive cutaneous necrosis resulting from medial calcification of the small arterioles. It is usually seen in uraemic patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism. An 11-year-old girl with end-stage renal failure and calciphylaxis of the toes is described. She was unresponsive to medical treatment and amputation was required.
