Techniques for Stabilizing Interarea Oscillations in Power Systems

Abstract Eigenanalysis and frequency domain techniques are jointly used on the analysis of interarea modes in multiarea power systems, aiming at the selection of the most effective machines for coordinated application of power system stabilizers and the most effective signals to be used to damp out the interarea oscillations. Couplings among generators of a same area or of different areas in the range of frequency of interarea modes, affecting their stabilization, are analyzed. Emphasis is given to decentralized control, but the most effective remote signals are also analyzed.
