Automatic detection of dining plates in digital video

An efficient approach to detect and localize dining plates in images and videos based on human vision is reported in this paper. Rapid processing is achieved by using random checkpoints on edges only, simulating the knowledge based target search in biological visual systems. A new grouping algorithm based on convexity is presented for a top-down segmentation of candidate objects. Our experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the new approach.
