Montreal's underground network: A study of the downtown pedestrian system

Abstract This article describes the Montreal underground pedestrian network and emphasizes its architectural aspects as well as types of occupants and ambiance characteristics. Fourteen km of underground pedestrian pathways have already been built in the downtown area; this network links 44 buildings and 9 subway stations. This article summarizes two surveys completed in 1984 and 1988 for the City of Montreal's city planning department.
