High density monolithic front-end systems for detectors without charge multiplication

Abstract A critical review of the concepts that are at the base of the design of front-end systems is being made necessary by the appearance of novel detectors and by the changing experimental situations. These concepts have to cope with the operating conditions dictated by the accelerators that are expected to be ready soon and must look also at the constraints that will be set by the next generation of hadron colliders. This paper conveys the attention on the problems of high density, low noise monolithic front-end systems in experiments at high rates of events.
