NCHRP BRIDGE ENGINEERING RESEARCH

Sponsored by participating members of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, the Transportation Research Board's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) was created in 1962 as a means to accelerate research on acute problem areas that affect highway planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance nationwide. Included in this is a very comprehensive bridge engineering research program. This paper provides a brief description of several major bridge engineering projects that are active in the program at this time.
