Recently, broadband wireless access network (IEEE 802.16/WiBro) isemerging forwireless communication foruser requirements suchashighquality data/voice service, fast mobility, widecoverage, etc. Asthedeployment ofwireless broadband access networkprogresses, userswillbeconnected toIPv6(Internet Protocol version 6)networks. WhiletheIEEE802.16 specifications define theencapsulation ofanIPdatagram inanIEEE802.16 MAC payload, acomplete description ofIPv6operation anddeployment isnotpresent andsomeofissues arestill being discussed inIETF andWiMAX NWG.Inthis paper, wewill discuss maincomponents ofIEEE802.16 IPv6access network anditsdifferences fromIPv4 networks andhowIPv6isdeployed andintegrated ineachofthe IEEE802.16 technologies using tunneling mechanisms andnative IPv6. Alsowewilldiscuss theIPv6impact onlinkmodelsand deployment scenarios. Keywords - IPv6, IEEE802.16, WiBro(Wireless Broadband), WiMAX,IETF(Internet Engineering TaskForce)
