Antigenic relationship between Paracoccidioides brasiliensis isolated from faeces of a penguin and a human isolate of P. brasiliensis

A Paracoccidioides brasiliensis strain isolated from the faeces of a penguin from Uruguayan Antartida and a human isolate of P. brasiliensis were compared on the basis of their antigen profiles as well as on their serological and immunochemical reactions. By immunodiffusion, both antigenic preparations displayed total immunological identity, mainly regarding the specific P. brasiliensis gp43 component. Both preparations reacted similarly with anti-gp43 serum by immunoelectrophoresis. The same protein/glycoprotein profiles were visualised by SDS-PAGE and the same antigen profiles were detected on Western blotting, when human paracoccidioidomycosis sera were used.
